Reichskolonialbund Membership Badge | GES. GESCH. Marked
This is an authentic Reichskolonialbund (RKB) membership badge, a very scarce and historically important enamel pin from the Nazi-era German Colonial League. The badge represents Germany’s lost overseas colonies and the NSDAP's ideological goal of regaining them — a propaganda-driven mission that never materialized militarily.
Badge Details:
- Design: Stylized shield featuring:
- A black swastika with radiating black lines
- White field representing colonial purity
- Red field with stars symbolizing Germany’s former African and Pacific colonies
- Construction: Enamel on tombak or zinc alloy
- Reverse Markings: Stamped “GES. GESCH.” (patent protected)
- Maker's mark “S” in a circle — likely attributed to Steinhauer & Lück, though not conclusively verified
- Original pin and catch intact, with period patina
Historical Background:
The Reichskolonialbund was founded in 1936 and operated until 1943. It aimed to revive public interest in Germany’s former overseas empire, lost after WWI. The organization was dissolved during WWII when focus shifted entirely to the European war effort.
Because of its short lifespan and political niche, RKB insignia like this are considered scarce and highly collectible.
